Coaches

Paul Doyle

I have been involved in swimming as both swimmer and coach for over 40 years, you could say that chlorine runs through my veins. In that time I have had the privilege of coaching many athletes who have taught me far more than I could ever teach them. In that time I have coached age groupers, masters, disabled swimmers and triathletes to county, regional, national, European, World and Paralympic medals.

My aims are simple:-

  • To create a highly successful competitive programme with clearly defined criteria and targets which will enable the swimmers to improve their levels of performance and to raise the clubs profile within the swimming community.
  • To create an environment within which all swimmers achieve their full potential.
  • To develop an ethos that promotes commitment, consistency, discipline and the value of hard work.
  • To challenge people’s perception of what is possible.
  • To develop a winning mentality.
  • To develop a professional and innovative coaching team.

Although there are many challenges, with a clear vision of where we are going and the support of everyone involved, Haringey Aquatics will continue to improve and move forward.

I started off my swimming career at Anaconda S.C before a transition into coaching, working at a number of clubs in London.

I hold the ASA Level 2 swimming coaching qualification, a bachelors degree in Sports Science and a masters degree in Sport and Performance Psychology. I'm currently undertaking his ASA Level 3 club coach award.

Teaming up with Paul Doyle, we are aiming to produce winning squads and a excellent teaching scheme. As a Tottenham native I'm looking forward to achieve our aim of making Haringey Aquatics a force within the London region and beyond.

My son accepted an invitation from the sons of my neighbours to come along to their swimming club six weeks before I was due to move out of Tottenham in July 1986. Twenty two years on they have all left, I am still here.

I became gala secretary for the club the year I joined and held that post for a number of years. I helped as team chaperone poolside and also became involved as a county recorder.

I qualified as an ASA official after a couple of years and am now an ASA qualified referee. When the old Tottenham Central pool closed we lost our Council-paid coach and Trevor took over the job on a voluntary basis with a few parents, including myself, helping out with some limited coaching. In 1992 I took my preliminary coaches qualification and in 1993 took the assistant club coach qualification at a residential course at Crystal Palace.

I have been working with the club continuously since then as a coach and am now club secretary. There are days when I could throttle my ex-neighbours sons!

Louise Redman

I have been involved with Haringey Aquatics for nearly 18 years, beginning with swimming lessons at age 4 and progressing through the groups to the competitive squad at age 9. Being part of the squad provided me with many exciting experiences especially swimming for the club in galas, going to Middlesex County and open meets to compete for medals and rosettes, representing Haringey at the London Heathrow Youth games and being elected as girl captain. Other memorable experiences included an exchange swimming trip to Germany and going with other club members and parents to swimming camp at Pontins. And of course, the Club championships, the Christmas parties and the summer outings were always high points in the year!

My swimming skills helped me to qualify as a lifeguard and begin earning a wage at weekends and during school holidays. With encouragement from the club, I also gained my level 1 teachers certificate and began to assist in teaching groups of beginners, helping to maintain my strong bond with the club. I am now a full time level 2 swimming instructor and I have the club to thank for putting me on this path. Haringey Aquatics is a great place to enhance your swimming talent, make lifelong friends and if you have the inclination, to progress into a career in sport and leisure.

Sarah Samworth

I joined the club at the age of 5 to learn to swim, and progressed through the club and competed in many middlesex county meets, I was Haringey Aquatics girl Captain and am now an honourary member of Haringey Aquatics. I am now one of Haringey Aquatics teachers for the learn to swim programme and have seen many of my swimmers progress through the club onto county level.

As well as being an ASA qualified swimming teacher, I am also a qualified timekeeper and judge and RLSS Lifeguard.
